The first service was held on Wednesday night, February 20, 1974. The members at the time considered a fellowship rather than a church, voted to ask the Rome Baptist Church to accept them as a mission to their church on May 8, 1974. A constitution was adopted, and the members voted to institute the "Aviano Baptist Church." On September 4, 1974, the church requested membership in the EBC.
Services were first held at the Italian Baptist Church in Pordenone for evening services and at the Base Chapel for morning services. In Jun 1974, the church moved into a new building, the Panorama Condominium in Aviano. Three years later the church moved again to its current location on Via Nardo, Aviano.

The 1990-91 fiscal year of Aviano Baptist Church has become known as a "transitional phase." We've overcome some difficult times, and we look ahead in the coming years, we are very excited about what God is going to do here at Aviano Baptist Church!

In February 1994, Oscar Barrow and his wife, Nan, came as full-time pastor to our church. During the last year, we have seen a tremendous amount of growth both spiritually and physically. Our Sunday School attendance has increased more than 60% in the last year, and we now average more than 100 in the morning worship service.
In February 1997, Oscar Barrow and his wife, Nan, returned tot he U.S. after fullfilling his three-year contract.
On March 16, 1997, the church voted to call Dr. Timothy Smith to be the new full-time pastor. With that, we also voted to form a Parsonage Search Committee to search for a house more suitable for the incoming pastor and his family. Following the Owens' installation as senior pastor, the church has undergone several changes. The sanctuary has been reconfigured to increase seating space; a satellite sanctuary has been established; AWANA and Faith Bible Intstitute have been started to facilitate Bible study for all ages. The church has been able to gain the use of two more parts of the building we are in, providing space for all Sunday School classes, a single's ministry, children's church and an expanded nursery. The Parsonage has been relocated from Vigonovo to Villotta, a section the town of Aviano.
